We all have questions - questions about things as theoretical as the nature of reality to things as practical as relationships. If we limit our understanding of life to what we can learn only through observation, we shortchange ourselves. The wisdom contained in the Bible offers all kinds of insights which can help us today. And don’t think that just because the Bible has been around for a long time it has nothing to say to us in the 21st century. It is as current as today’s YouTube posting.
Picture this: A young man rapes his half-sister. Thinking he has successfully intimidated the girl, he lays low and becomes convinced that he has gotten away with his crime. Two years later, the girl’s brother throws a family bash and everyone, including the rapist, attends. As the party progresses, he drinks too much. When he is incapacitated, men working for the girl’s brother murder him. That story is not from a national newscast, or even a supermarket tabloid. It comes from the Bible (2 Samuel 13).
Admittedly that is an extreme example, but it serves to show the currency of the Bible. More important than its historical stories is the help and encouragement it offers regarding the spiritual and personal issues we all face day-to-day. This is particularly true regarding how we can overcome feelings of guilt and bondage. The main messages of the Bible have to do with forgiveness and the freedom that comes with it.
Jesus did not shy away from making declarative statements about things like truth and freedom. In fact, He linked the two. (See John 8.) We believe these statements are dependable and have proven them in our own lives as we’ve found answers to our personal questions. This has prompted us to follow Christ, not merely identify ourselves as Christian.
Just in case you’re wondering, does this mean that we have perfect lives with enviable health, families, jobs, wealth, possessions and so on? No, from the outside we probably wouldn’t stand out in a crowd. What it does mean is that we’ve found a spiritual resource that allows us to do things that we could never do on our own. Some of us have had to forgive major wrongs against us. We’ve also had to ask forgiveness for things we’ve done to others. Through this we’ve found personal freedom.
Some of us have been in bondage to substance, relationships and our own emotional weakness. As we’ve come to see the truth about who Jesus is and what He has done for us, we’ve experienced freedom we’d never dreamed of, from these unseen chains.
One more thing you should know, is that we have seen time and again that prayer makes a difference. It’s not a magic formula to get everything you want, but many of us associated with “Talk on the Way” could give specific instances where God has worked in and through our prayers. So we invite you to share your concerns with us. We do this two ways. We will pray with and for you personally if you contact us directly or we will post our prayer for you in the quiet place. God answers prayer, often in remarkable ways.
Wrapping this up, in a nutshell, “Talk on the Way” is a Christian website that seeks to provide answers to life’s big questions about reality from the Bible. We seek to offer help, encouragement and prayer regarding relationships as well as spiritual and personal issues drawing attention to the freedom that comes with forgiveness.
